Honestly no! I am a Certified Dental Assistant and trust me I've tried. I don't know what you can substitute though. Benzocaine is usually what is the main anesthetic in dental topical. I have heard of people using benzocaine for the body but maybe a different type.
Here is some info...
Numbing Gel (Topical Anesthesia)
Topical Anesthesia (or ';numbing gel'; in dentist-speak) is used to numb your gums or other tissues before an injection, so that you can't feel the needle glide in.
鈥opical Anesthetic = an anesthetic agent that is applied externally to tissues like gums
鈥ocal Anesthetic = an anesthetic agent that is injected with a needle
How does it work?
Numbing gel contains an anesthetic agent, most commonly benzocaine (usually at a concentration of 20%). A cotton swab or q-tip is used to apply a small amount of gel to the injection site.Would dental numbing cream stuff work on numbing your body?
Yes.. Stella is right..
I have tried to put topical on my body to see if it would numb it.. Nope
LOL It was an experience :)
OH yea PS DR ALBERT.. I have read alot of answers you've given and you have ALOT of misspellings.. Maybe you need to look in the mirror before you give other people criticism..DUH!!! :)
VANESSA,
THIS ONLY FOR A MUCOUS MEMBRANE AS LIKE THE MOUTH, ETC.,BUT NOT THE SKIN
FYI. BENZINE IS NOT THE BENZOCAINE, THE TRUE INGREDIENT IN DENTAL GEL.
Ask your pharmacist about AneCream - it is a lidocaine made for topical application, instead of oral dental use. It is availabe over-the-counter, but pharmacist usually has to order it and will get it in stock within 2 days.
Pff its really not that bad. It hurts for about 2 secs, now if you are me and are a hairy gorilla it will hurt. My friend waxed my chest and I was bleeding from it. I won't let her do it anymore lol
