What is the difference between body cream and lotion?

i am really confused and i think i might have been ripped off. does one have more smell or something? What is the difference between body cream and lotion?
A cream is usually a lot more rich, it is usually used as a night cream and more thick. Lotions are lighter And more absorbent, suitable for day time. But if you have dry skin a cream for day time is okay. Lotions are usually for sensitive skins as it is lighter, therefore is less of a irritant.

The smell is entirely up to the manufacturers, unless it specifically says Fragrance Free, then that is a different case. Speak to the counter when shopping to understand what you are purchasing. What is the difference between body cream and lotion?
